Community members are invited to lace up their walking shoes for the Merton Interfaith Walk on Saturday, 6th June 2026. This five-mile challenge walk offers a unique opportunity to visit various local faith sites while supporting a vital cause.
A Journey of Connection
Led by Blue Badge Guide Richard Smart, the walk serves as a bridge between the diverse faith communities in Merton. The journey begins outside the Merton Civic Centre in Morden at 10 am. Participants will travel through Morden and Mitcham, eventually concluding at Merton Abbey Mills around 4 pm.
Key stops along the route include:
- Morden Islamic Centre
- Mitcham Parish Church
- Sri Navadhurgai Amman Temple Mitcham
- Merton Priory
Walking for a Cause
While the walk celebrates local heritage and unity, it also serves a practical purpose for the community. Registration for the event involves a donation, with all proceeds going directly to The Merton Homeless Project – Faith in Action. By joining the walk, participants are helping provide essential support and "small comforts" to those facing homelessness in the borough.
Know Before You Go
To ensure a respectful experience at all religious buildings, organisers have shared a few guidelines for attendees:
- Respectful Clothing: Wear modest attire and be prepared to remove footwear at some locations.
- Head Coverings: Women are asked to wear head coverings when visiting the mosque.
- Families: Children are welcome to join the walk if accompanied by an adult.
- Preparation: Participants should bring their own water and food for the journey.
Whether you can join for the full five miles or just a portion of the route, your presence helps strengthen the bonds of the Merton community. For queries or to register, contact Richard Smart at Richard@rjsmart.com or call 07749 607905.
